Why was the Esterel terminated

Postby Top Volume » 17. Nov 2013, 01:38

Can anyone inform us of why production ceased and how many produced.

There is so little information about the history. Who were the company directors? etc etc

What warranties were provided with new caravan and what did they cover?

Hello !

Esterel production was stopped in 2001 when Rapido had take back the production unit. The Rapido factory (and other trademarks)transformed their units to produce a lot of camping cars (new mode of hollidays) at the begining of the 21th century. Rapido, Fleurette, Casita etc... will stop the folding produtions at the same time.

Today, only one factory make "folding caravans" yet. Ace-Lebrun, made in spain and distribute by Lebrun & fils, north of France http://www.ace-caravans.com/especiales

Many french distributors actually says that caravans are back and camping car sales are lesser.

Maybe an happy new year for our folding caravans...

(Thank's to correct mistakes)

There is also Gobur in Norfolk UK, who have been around at least as long as the original Esterel company and have continued making folding caravans since that time: -

Yes, their look is like Esterel but in France, it's dangerous to have the door on road side :D

Probably the only disadvantage of traveling with a folding caravan - it's not so simple to just stop and put the kettle on ;)

Yes, it's the only disavantage... Esterel make folding caravans with right (or left door for you). It's not difficult to make.

So salers also says that many many small "folding trailer tent" :!: were sold last years...

The other arguments as well for Folding caravans are praticalities:
Easier to store,
Less Cumbersome on the road to drive with,
You don't have to pay motorway toll on them here in France (not really a practical argument but... :) )
Cheaper to insure ?
